Content - Summary

En Bolivia se han desarrollado importantes inversiones en alcantarillado sanitario en casi todas las ciudades con poblaciones mayores a 5.000 habitantes, aunque con coberturas limitadas y con plantas de tratamiento aún con rendimientos de tratamiento deficitarias. Es por ello, que al igual que otros países en vías de desarrollo, gran parte de las aguas residuales se descargan al ambiente sin tratamiento alguno, esta acción constituye el mayor causante de contaminación del agua en todo el planeta.

A esta situación se suma las consecuencias del cambio climático que ocasiona tormentas violentas, sequías, inundaciones y el retroceso o la desaparición de los glaciares o cerros nevados, que en muchos casos, son la principal fuente de abastecimiento de agua para consumo humano, en consecuencia el cambio climático agrava lacrisis del agua que se siente cada vez más en muchos lugares del mundo al igual que en nuestro país. Con este enfoque resulta inadmisible pensar en usar el recurso agua para evacuar nuestros desechos, peor aún si es agua tratada.
