Contextualising WASH behaviour
The missing link to effective behaviour change communication?

16 Dec. 2020 • 12:00 - 13:00

Improving practices in the interrelated areas of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) through campaigns and communication requires a good understanding of current practices and the rationale behind them. The purpose of this joint Norwegian Church Aid and NIVA webinar is to shed light upon this topic and to provide an analytical example from Nepal. The target group for the webinar are WASH professionals on all levels.

Further Description / Program

About the speakers:
Manfred Alt (Norwegian Church Aid):
“Social Behaviour Change in Norwegian Church Aid’s WASH Projects”
Manfred Alt is Senior Advisor for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. He will introduce common social behaviour change frameworks and their relevance and present Norwegian Church Aid’s hygiene behavior change in their Climate Resilient Water Sanitation and Hygiene project.

Idun Rognerud (NIVA): “Household water treatment, risk and behavior change through the lens of seasonality”
During her master’s studies, Idun conducted fieldwork in Nepal, examining how risk and behavior is influenced by seasonality, and what this means for behavior change initiatives. Focusing on household water treatment, the study utilises the Risk, Attitude, Norm, Ability and Self-Regulation (RANAS) framework to identify behavioural drivers of consistent household water treatment. In the seminar, Idun will discuss why seasonality matters and the importance of contextualizing behavior change interventions.
