SFD (Lite) Report - Banshkhali Municipality CWIS-FSM Support Cell, DPHE (2023)

Banshkhali Municipality is located within the Banshkhali Sub-District (Upazila) situated in the Chattogram District (Zila) under Chattogram Division. The geographical coordinates of Banshkhali are 22°01'30.00"N and 91°57'15.12"E. On the north, it is bordered by Anowara Upazila and the Sanguriver; on the south, Chakaria Upazila; on the east, Lohagara and Satkania Upazilas; on the west, the Kutubdia Channel and Kutubdia Upazila; and on the northwest, the Bay of Bengal.
According to the population census in 2011 by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the Banshkhali city population was 36,910 the urban population growth in Banshkhali is 1.2% per year. Considering 10% floating population, such as farmers and traders coming to the city every day, the present (2023) population is estimated to be around 46,849 (Table 1). The household survey results show that majority of the occupation is business (31%), followed by agriculture (20%) and labourer (14%). The outcome of the SFD graphic shows that only fourteen percent (14%) of the excreta flow is classified as safely managed, and the remaining eighty six percent (86%) is classified as unsafely managed.
