Islampur Municipality is located within the Islampur Sub-District (Upazila) situated in the Jamalpur District (Zila) under Mymensingh Division. The geographical coordinates of Islampur are 26°16'12.00"N and 88°12'0.00"E. It is bordered on the north by the Upazilas of Dewanganj and Bakshiganj, on the south by the Upazilas of Madarganj and Melandaha, on the east by the Upazilas of Sherpur Sadar and Sreebardi, and on the west by the Upazilas of Saghatta, Fulchhari, and Sariakandi.
According to the population census in 2011 by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the Islampur city population was 38,568. The urban population growth in Islampur is 1.6% per year. Considering 10% floating population, such as farmers and traders coming to the city every day, the present (2023) population is estimated to be around 51,327.
The outcome of the SFD graphic shows that only twenty three percent (23%) of the excreta flow is classified as safely managed, and the remaining seventy seven percent (77%) is classified as unsafely managed.
