SFD (Lite) Report - Kalkini Municipality CWIS-FSM Support Cell, DPHE (2025)
Kalkini Municipality is situated within the Kalkini Sub-District (Upazila) in Madaripur District (Zilla), under Dhaka division (Figure 2). The geographical coordinates of Kalkini are 23°00' N and 90°22' E. Kalkini Paurashava is situated in the Madaripur District. Madaripur is bordered on the north by Madaripur Sadar and Shariatpur Sadar Upazilas, on the south by Gaurnadi upazilas, on the east by Gosairhat, Muladi, and Damudya Upazilas, and on the west by Kotalipara and Gaurnadi Upazilas.
According to the population census in 2011 by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the population of Kalkini Municipality was 41,608. The urban population growth in Kalkini is 0.77% per year. Considering 10% floating population, such as farmers and traders coming to the city every day, the present (2023) population is estimated to be around 50,182.
The outcome of the SFD graphic shows that only twenty three percent (23%) of the excreta flow is classified as safely managed, and the remaining seventy seven percent (77%) is classified as unsafely managed.
