Data and design: mineralization of sanitation wastes from community ablution blocks
Various documents on results from research grant
This library entry contains background documents for a grant that Chris Buckley is leading and which is funded by the WSH Program of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation under the Reinvent the Toilet Challenge (RTTC) Round 1.
Further information and a discussion is available on the SuSanA discussion forum:

The goal of this project is to design, prototype, and evaluate a toilet system that can safely dispose of pollutants and recover valuable materials such as water and carbon dioxide from urine in community bathroom blocks.
The following posters are available for download below:
- Toilet system overview
- Faeces and solids processing
- Urine processing
- Pre-fabricated ablution blocks
- Sanitation field work opportunities
- Properties of faecal sludge
- Pit scanner
There are also short factsheets on:
- Urine as a fertiliser
- CAB monitoring (community ablution blocks)
- Mechanical properties of faecal sludge
Two presentations:
- Presentation about the project at the fair in Seattle in August 2012
- Mechanical properties of faecal sludge
