Samman - A film on sanitation workers safety and dignity M. K. Raina (2026)

Samman is a powerful and deeply moving film directed by the celebrated Theatre and Film Actor and Director M. K. Raina.

The film takes viewers into the often unseen world of sanitation workers in India, bringing to light the harsh realities of their work and the dangerous conditions they face every day. Despite legal safeguards such as the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013, manual entry into sewers continues in many cities, leading to tragic and preventable deaths.

Through an unflinching lens, Samman exposes these systemic failures while amplifying the urgent need to protect the safety, dignity, and rights of sanitation workers. At the same time, the film also highlights hopeful and transformative efforts to change this reality. It showcases the Governments and civil society partnership in addressing the issue.

Samman is not just a film, it is a call for dignity, safety, and systemic change. By bringing these stories to the forefront, the film seeks to build awareness, inspire action, and move India closer to a future where no sanitation worker loses their life in the sewers of our cities.
