AVOW is an initiative brought to you by the African Ministers‘ Council on Water (AMCOW) as a platform to amplify the collective voice of Africa‘ s water and sanitation sector. Join for a journey through the triumphs, challenges, and innovations that shape Africa‘s water and sanitation landscape.

AMCOW wants to demonstrate its vision as an effective organ of the African Union, committed to delivering political leadership, policy direction, and advocacy in the African water sector. AVOW highlights AMCOW’s commitment to impacting millions across the continent; ensuring equitable access to clean water and sustainable water resource management and sanitation for all.

Content - Summary

In this inaugural edition, you will read about some of the events, initiatives, and stories about Africa’s efforts towards achieving water security in Africa.
This edition spotlights the 13th General Assembly of AMCOW, which brought together Ministers from over 40 countries and stakeholders. The Council, made bold decisions for actions on critical issues affecting sustainable water resources management and sanitation in Africa. The Council took stock of Africa‘s efforts towards the commitments made in tackling water, sanitation and hygiene challenges, fostering collaboration, and driving positive change across borders.

You will also read about the Stakeholder Engagement on Transboundary Water Cooperation with leaders of Basin Organisations. The event which underscored the importance of working together for peace, stability, and prosperity across african regions.
Also, you will read about the launch of the 2022 Report on the “Implementation of the July 2008 Sharm el-Sheikh Declaration (Assembly/AU/Decl.1 (XI))“ with contributions from 44 Member States. The report underlines AMCOW‘s pursuit of data-driven decisions and results, pointing us towards areas that demand further attention and action. True to its name, Africa‘s Voice on Water, AVOW provides member states a platform to share their stories, experiences, and innovations. You can read about representatives of Egypt sharing their experience in managing water scarcity, collaboration on the 13th General Assembly, COP27, AWARe and the UN 2023 Water Conference. Representatives from Malawi and Namibia give an insight into their sanitation projects.
