Recomendações para uso agrícola do excreto estão baseado no conhecimento de conteúdo de nutrimento do excreto, as quantidades excretadas, a composição e a disponibilidade de fertilizante das plantas e o tratamento de excreto, o que influência os seus conteúdos. Relações e dados que possam formar a base para adaptação das orientações nas condições locais estão apresentados neste texto. Urina e fezes são fertilizantes completos de alta qualidade com níveis mínimos de contaminadores, tais como metais pesados. Urina é rico em nitrogénio, enquanto fezes são ricos em fósforo, potássio, e material orgânico A quantidade de nutrientes excretados depende da quantidade de alimentação consumida, e equações estão apresentados para calcúlo de nitrogénio e fósforo do excreto baseado nas estatísticas facilmente disponíveis no fornecimento da proteina alimentar.
