Documento desarrollado por el Servicio Holandés de Cooperación al Desarrollo SNV, en el marco del Convenio Interinstitucional suscrito por el Nodo de Conocimiento en Saneamiento Ecológico Sostenible Descentralizado (NSSD), SNV y Water For People – Un Hábitat, para desarrollar la iniciativa de Diseño e Implementación del Marketing Social para el Saneamiento Sostenible Descentralizado (SSD).

El Nodo de Conocimiento en Saneamiento Ecológico Descentralizado de Bolivia, Water For People-UN Hábitat y el Servicio Holandés de Cooperación al Desarrollo deciden unir esfuerzos para llevar adelante una Estrategia de Marketing social para facilitar el acceso de familias de zonas periurbanas de Cochabamba, a saneamiento sostenible descentralizado, como una alternativa real de solución.

Esta alternativa de saneamiento a través de la construcción de baños ecológicos secos, al margen de cubrir la sentida necesidad de acceso a saneamiento de familias de las zonas periurbanas, en este caso de los distritos 8, 9 y 14 de Cochabamba, pretende promocionar el modelo entre los diferentes actores, rompiendo el mito por el que las redes de alcantarillado serían la única forma y sistema conocido de disposición de los residuos humanos, logrando asi su aceptación e incorporación dentro de las alternativas para la gestión del saneamiento. El otro gran reto de la iniciativa es impulsar un cambio de paradigma que revalore el concepto de consumidor y ciudadano para aquellos que siempre han sido marginados, respondiendo por primera vez a sus expectativas de calidad, creando una oferta local de pequeños negocios rentables y facilitando el intercambio a través de opciones de micro crédito.
