Small Pyrolysis Unit Product Development and Commercialization Planning

2016 - 2019 • Tide Technocrats Private Limited

Purpose

To support the development of a technology solution and institutional framework to manage septage and fecal sludge from non-sewered toilets for safe treatment and disposal

Activities

This grant will fund the development and testing of small omniprocessors (OPs) at Design Validation scale at various field sites in India. The original small pyrolysis OP was tested for a period of 18 months in Bangalore India. The goal of this project is to design, build and field test at multiple locations a refined technology based on the original unit tested and validate that it can be scaled to commercial viability. The technology solution to manage septage and fecal sludge from non-sewered toilets includes a six-stage process:
a. Screening, Grit removal and Storage
b. Pasteurization
c. Dewatering
d. Treatment of the Excess water from Dewatering
e. Drying
f. Pyrolysis

Phase 1 of the grant includes Setup and Field testing of three community scale units at India at Narsapur, Andhra Pradesh; Wai, Maharashtra and Warangal, Telangana in India apart from Design and Development facilities at Bangalore, India (Tide Technocrats) and Connecticut, USA (Biomass Controls). At the end of the on-ground field test, a commercialization business plan at the unit level will also be developed.
