We are pleased to invite you to the International Conference on “From Circular Economy to Ecological Sanitation: Re-centering Nature in Urban Water Systems,” to be held on 9–10 October 2026 in Pune.
The conference is being jointly organised by ESF and Symbiosis Center for Waste Resource Management (SCWRM), SIU, Pune, and will bring together policymakers, urban planners, municipal officials, engineers, researchers, academicians, development practitioners, climate and sustainability professionals, NGOs, and private-sector stakeholders.
Over the past two decades, the global water and sanitation discourse has evolved around concepts such as circular economy, resource recovery, nature-based solutions, decentralised systems, climate resilience, and regenerative cities. The conference seeks to revisit the foundational principles of Ecological Sanitation (EcoSan), i.e. closing water and nutrient loops, working with natural systems, and aligning sanitation with ecological cycles, and examine their continued relevance to the challenges facing cities across the Global South, including water stress, flooding, groundwater depletion, nutrient loss, public health pressures, and climate uncertainty.
