The French Polar Institute operates two stations in Antarctica. The first and oldest, Dumont d'Urville, is located on the coast, five days by sea from Hobart (Tasmania). The second and most recent, Concordia, is located 1,100 km to the south and at an altitude of 3,000 m, a 10-day journey by tractor traverse. Wastewater treatment is a difficult technical challenge to achieve in such extreme conditions. The French Polar Institute has addressed some of the challenges, but not all of them. It needs to improve its processes. The current situation and the solutions envisaged will be discussed.
