The 16th SanCoP Meeting entitled 'What can the UK SanCoP bring to the post 2015 SDG agenda? Learning from progress and failure' will take place at the WEDC International Conference.


We are pleased to announce the 24th meeting of UK's Sanitation Community of Practice (SanCop) on 'Sanitation and Energy' taking place on Monday 6th April 2020 (10am-4pm) at Cranfield University.

Draft Programme

Themes:

  • Waste to energy/waste recovery

- Technologies & challenges

- Implications for access (to sanitation and energy), inclusion and job creation

- Viability, financial sustainability/business-models and ‘buy-in’

- Climate change resilience/adaptation

Structure:

  • Introduction

  • Presentations: Drivers i.e. ‘why is waste to energy important’ (context of climate change, equity and inclusion, recycling and circular economy)

  • Presentations: Practices/Examples at different geographical scales i.e. Households Community, Citywide, Regional, National etc

- Call for presentations from academics, companies, NGOs, INGOs

  • Discussion (Key Questions)

- Who should take responsibility for waste recovery (i.e. government, private companies, NGOs)?

- Who has the resources and ‘will’/interest, considering that it does not necessarily generate revenue?

- “What next? How can it be replicated? And/or what are the conditions for this to make sense and happen in a given context”

- Funding opportunities/map out funding landscape

  • Wrap-up and (pub) networking 

 

We also have a couple of key requests:

  • Speakers: We've got some great speakers lined up, but wanted to open the floor to anyone who would like to speak/contribute on this topic from academia, NGOs, industry and social enterprises. Please email us with a preliminary topic & talk title to express your interest, as soon as possible. We will be finalising the programme in the next two weeks. Likewise, if you have any recommendations for speakers, feel free to pass on this information.

  • Travel Information: Cranfield University campus/location details can be found here: https://www.cranfield.ac.uk/about/how-to-find-cranfield. If you are coming via car, there are plenty of parking spaces. If you are coming via train, the closest stations are Milton Keynes and Bedford. We encourage you to take the local bus or taxi pool if coming in groups (taxi ranks are available at stations). However, there may also be a possibility to put on a minibus (for a fee), which can take participants to the Cranfield campus. If you are interested in the minibus can you please email to notify us, and include the train station you would be arriving into. If there are enough requests, we can make appropriate arrangements.
