Capacity Building for Ecological Sanitation: The Ecosan Trainers of the Future, April 2008

This 9 day course contained training/lecture material, presentations and exercises on the topic of ecological sanitation in peri-urban areas in Cagayan de Oro (CDO), Philippines. The target group was trainers of ecological sanitation systems. The content of the course was based on the old EcoSan Curriculum of Seecon (and the 1001 partners such as GTZ, IWWA, TTZ, ESF etc.). Johannes Heeb and Martin Wafler (both from Seecon) have been holding the course in CDO. Additionally Robert Holmer (PUVeP), Ulrike Lipkow (local GTZ water program) and Gina Itchon (XU) have contributed to the success of the event.

Nowadays, the old EcoSan curriculum is replaced by the broader SSWM course (which is focused on Sustainable Sanitation and IWRM rather than on EcoSan). The first one took place in CDO in 2010, and soon there will be courses in India and Nepal.

Comprehensive technical design paramaters for biogas, grewater and toilets facilities is provided in the training/lecture material below. The presenations incude information on various aspects of sanitation as health, technology, management, cost and economics and agricultural reuse. The exercise section provides group work and role plays. This course has been conducted jointly by the GTZ Water and Sanitation Program in cooperation with the Peri-urban Vegetable Project (PUVeP) and Seecon International at Magis Training Center Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro, in April 2008.
