No time to waste – together for a healthy Nepal, Kathmandu, Nepal, December 2019

The first national workshop on integrated healthcare waste management & WASH in healthcare facilities in Nepal was held between the 10th and 12th December 2020 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The workshop was hosted by The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) together with concerned line ministries and supporting partners like GIZ, WHO, UNDP, UNICEF, WaterAid and SNV.

With successful approaches to provide more people with high quality healthcare in Nepal, the amount of waste produced in the healthcare sector is also rising. Besides general solid waste, a substantial amount of hazardous waste is generated in healthcare facilities across the country every day.

The learning workshop brought together Nepali and international key actors to raise awareness for the current issues in integrated healthcare waste management and WASH in Nepal and provide a forum for knowledge exchange for the participants. Knowledge exchange was promoted by presentations, panel discussions, thematic working groups, an innovative market place showcasing relevant technologies and initiatives. The final summary concluded the key lessons learned and the way forward for Nepal.
