World Water Week 2012: Water and Food Security

The World Water Week in Stockholm provides a dynamic
platform for a rich exchange between a wide diversity of
perspectives, an approach which has led to the creation of countless
innovative water solutions throughout the years. Every year we add new features, and invite new partners to cover the yearly theme of the week, and continue to provide excellent networking opportunities for participants – both in Stockholm and online throughout the year. We are very happy to see that every year, new actors and sectors find their way to Stockholm.

This year we will be focusing on one of the oldest and most urgent challenges to human development: Water and food security. Feeding everyone in the future with limited water resources means that we have to become better at growing more “crops per drop” as well as revisit our thinking regarding how we produce, consume, and trade food from a water perspective all along the food chain. In developed nations, every fourth food shopping bag goes to waste – leading to a huge virtual loss of water and other resources.
