SOIL is seeking a Financial Officer

Job Description:
SOIL is looking for a financial officer to improve the professionalism of our accounting processes and controls, to assist in training staff and hiring, as necessary, to ensure that books are kept in excellent order and up to date. This will be a full-time position based in Haiti for the first month. After the first month the work will likely be part-time and can be conducted from any geographical location, provided that internet communication is possible.

Location:
- The first month of work will require presence in SOIL's Haiti offices in Port-au-Prince and Cap Haitien. After the first month the location is flexible and open to negotiation depending on the applicant's needs and other commitments.

Job Duties:

- Advise staff and Board of Directors on annual budget

- Review accounting department records
- Monitor financial schedule for regulatory deadlines (ie for 1099s, taxes, non-profit filings, etc) and file taxes and set up a calendar to send reminders for when necessary forms are to be submitted
- Guide organization through control and process steps to assist in the passing of an audit
- Provide general financial oversight
- Rebuild financial and accounting system and processes to add efficiencies and bring into US GAAP compliance
- Improve professionalism of internal and external reporting
- Restructure accounting processes and controls to accommodate growing organization
- Hire, train, and motivate a first class accounting department to cooperate with and provide information to all other departments


Required Skills and Experience:
- CPA or graduate accounting degree strongly preferred, minimum BA in accounting or finance related subject

- Minimum 2 years of experience working as financial officer at US-based non-profit organization

- Experience with financial reporting for international funding agencies (European Commission, US AID, etc) strongly preferred
- Extensive experience with Quickbooks and MS Excel

- Familiarity with non-profit tax laws in the United States
- French or Haitian Creole language skills preferred but not required
