Internship (m/f) GIZ program “Sustainable sanitation – ecosan” in Germany
The GIZ program “Sustainable sanitation – ecosan” has an open vacancy for an internship in Eschborn, Germany. Note: the vacancy is open for international students presently studying at a university in Germany.

Field of activity More than a third of the global population is currently living with extremely poor or without basic sanitation. Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ started the international ecosan program in May 2001 which is now called the “Sustainable sanitation – ecosan” program. The aims of this program are to establish the ecosan concept as a well-known concept for sanitation, and to promote sustainable sanitation in partner countries. The GIZ program “Sustainable sanitation – ecosan” is a partner of the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA, www.susana.org) and hosts the secretariat and website of this worldwide alliance.

Tasks
You will carry out various tasks for the ecosan program, such as editing SuSanA case studies and fact sheets, assisting with the quarterly ecosan newsletter, preparing presentations, uploading photos to our photo database on flickr, editing the Kenya Ecosan Network Blog, improving the SuSanA website and uploading documents to the SuSanA library. You will also update the worldwide list of ecosan projects.

Requirements
Applicants should study for a Bachelors or Masters degree (or be within six months of completion of their degree) in environmental engineering/management, civil engineering, geo sciences, public health, agricultural science, urban infrastructure planning or similar fields. Basic knowledge of sustainable sanitation and an affinity with computers and internet related work are required. Prior knowledge of website editing in a content management system such as Joomla is a bonus but not required as we can train you in using these systems. Fluency in English language is expected, and basic knowledge of German is an advantage (but not a prerequisite). Proficiency in MS office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is required. International students from Africa, Asia or Latin America presently studying in Germany (in particular females) are especially encouraged to apply.

Period
15.04.2011 onwards (for a period of 3 months, with possible extension to 6 months)

Stipend
We pay a monthly stipend of EUR 950,- (gross).
