Update on sustainable sanitation activities in Durban and the progress of the knowledge node in South Africa

In the first part of the presentation Chris Buckley provides an overview of the sustainable sanitation activities in Durban. The overview includes brief descriptions of recently held and future workshops, the Municipal Learning (MILE) initiative, new Dewats and urban agriculture projects, urine related projects like the Gates Foundation and Eawag Project, VIP sludge processing and the One School One Garden campaign.
In the second part of the presentation a brief update on the progress of the sustainable sanitation knowledge node in South Africa is given. The node is an EcoSanres and Win-SA initiative. The mandate of the node as well as its achievements and activities are presented.
The 13th SuSanA meeting was held in Kigali, Rwanda on 17-18 July 2011 (Sunday afternoon and Monday whole day) prior to the AfricaSan 3 which took place in Kigali, Rwanda from 19-21 July 2011. The meeting was jointly hosted by the Ministry of Health (Rwanda), UNICEF-Rwanda and the SuSanA secretariat. The venue was the MUHABURA at Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in Kigali. We would like to warmly thank all presenters, participants and organisers for the stimulating and interesting event.
