Release: "Sustainable Sanitation Practice - Use of Urine" by EcoSan Club
The free journal "Sustainable Sanitation Practice" (SSP) is published quarterly by the non profit organisation EcoSan Club.

Sustainable Sanitation Practice - Issue 3 With the journal EcoSan Club tries to make available high quality information on practical experiences with available sustainable sanitation systems. SSP should fill a gap that they have identified in the last few years in which sustainable sanitation has become an important issue that is discussed among many disciplines. For SSP a sanitation system is sustainable when it is not only economically viable, socially acceptable and technically and institutionally appropriate, but it should also protect the environment and the natural resources.

The third issue (4/2010) presents five papers that deal with various aspects on the use of urine:
  • Opening minds and closing loops - productive sanitation initiatives in Burkina Faso and Niger
  • Experiences from use of urine in Arba Minch, Ethiopia
  • Pharmaceutical Residues in Urine as Fertiliser
  • Backyard urine recycling in the United States of America
  • Food Security and Productive Sanitation - practical guidelines on the use of urine
The journal can be downloaded at www.ecosan.at/ssp for free.
