SOIL is seeking a Business Development Consulltant to advise on how to support the development of small or micro-enterprises in sanitation.

Job Description:

SOIL is looking for someone with business and livelihoods training to advise on how to support the development of small or micro-enterprises in sanitation (toilet construction, waste collection and treatment, etc) that can ensure the ongoing provision of EcoSan services in Haiti. This project will also involve completing an assessment of the cost savings and efficiency of EcoSan sanitation compared to other sanitation interventions. 


Location:


-   For the initial research component of this project (estimated to be 1 to 2 months), you will be expected to work closely with the SOIL staff in Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien, Haiti but for writing and assessment portion of the project (estimated to be 3 to 4 months) you are welcome to complete the assignment remotely from the comfort of your home or university. 


Job Duties:


- Research the potential small or microenterprises that exist within ecological sanitation

- Research the financial viability of these enterprises (market demand, costs, etc)
- Write a business plan that covers the full spectrum of potential small or microenterprises that advises SOIL on the best way to support this nascent industry
- Write a report on the cost savings and efficiency of EcoSan sanitation compared to other sanitation interventions such as traditional sewers, waste treatment ponds, pit latrines, etc.
- Work with SOIL staff to design a program that puts findings to immediate use in creating small or micro-enterprises in the sanitation sector that support or replace SOIL’s existing services
-    Solicit feedback from SOIL staff and partners throughout the writing process and in a final presentation


Required Skills and Experience:


- A student working towards a graduate business degree strongly preferred, minimum BA in business, economics, finance or a related field
- Ability to conduct research independently
- Experience supporting the development of small or micro-enterprises
- French or Haitian Creole language skills preferred but not required
