Regular and safe disposal of solid waste is the basis for hygiene and prevention of diseases, hence foundation for development activities oriented at poverty alleviation through improvement of health.
Increasing volume of solid waste in densely populated areas due to lack of appropriate planning, changed lifestyle of packaged consumables and inadequate basic infrastructure in low income settlements and peripheral areas are all challenges faced by cities in developing countries.
