Advanced Sanitation Training Course for German NGOs
After more than 5 basic sanitation trainings the German Toilet Organization (GTO) has developed a new advanced training course to deepen the knowledge of the participants on sustainable sanitation in the context of development cooperation. The first advanced training took place from 3 to 4 March 2012 in Berlin in the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and was a big success. The training topics ranged from detailed information on sustainable sanitation technologies and -systems to non-technical accompanying measures and financing. Various knowledge tools/toolboxes were introduced and project examples were discussed with regard to “best practices” and “lessons learnt”.

Sanitation training program for German NGOs
The German Toilet Organization (GTO), in collaboration with the ecosan program of the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), has developed a training program for German NGOs. The first training took place on 23 to 24 October 2010 at the GIZ headquarters in Eschborn. The second training took place on 27 to 28 November 2010 at the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development in Berlin. A third training has been carried out on 16 and 17 July 2011 at the GIZ in Bonn. The fourth training took place on 29 and 30 October 2011 again at the BMZ in Berlin, the fifth training in February 2012 in cooperation with WECF (Women in Europe for a Common Future) in Iffeldorf near Munich. The language of the events was German.

This Sourcebook and 600 animated power-point slides provide the trainer (researcher, teacher, instructor, mobilizer, etc.) with a science- and experience-based material that covers all aspects of sanitation. It gives a topic-based and integrated understanding of the available possibilities to provide comfortable sanitation arrangements that recirculate resources in hygienic, affordable and socially accepted ways. Examples abound of systems and arrangements from various parts of the world.

Ecosan training course at 2iE university in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (GTZ)

Le cours de formation sur ecosan à l'Institut 2iE de Ouagadougou au Burkina Faso est présenté par la GTZ. Il comprend quatre modules ( tous en Francais).

Le 2iE est un Institut International Bilingue d´éducation et de recherche spécialisé dans les domaines de l´Ingénierie de l'Eau, l'Energie, l'Environnement et le Genie Civil. En coopération avec la GTZ et dans l'optique de parfaire la formation de ses étudiants dans le domaine de l'assainissement, a organisé un cours de formation sur ecosan mis en oeuvre entre le programme Eau et Assainissement de la GTZ au Burkina Faso , le 2iE et le programme ecosan de la GTZ.

The training course on ecosan at the 2iE university in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso is presented by the GTZ. There are four modules (all in French).
 

The 2iE is an International Bilingual Institute of education and research specialised in the fields of Water, Energy, Environment and Civil Engineering. In cooperation with the GTZ and aiming to perfect the training of their students in the fields of sanitation, has organised an training course on ecosan implemented between the Water Programm of GTZ in Burkina, the 2ie and the GTZ ecosan Programm.

UNESCO-IHE online course "ecological sanitation"
This course presents approaches to sustainable sanitation in low-income countries world-wide, which contributes to achieving MDG targets in the area of sanitation but also in related fields such as natural resource protection, food security, improving living conditions in slums, poverty reduction and environmental sustainability. The course runs for 16 weeks in a part-time mode (about 8 hours per week).

Capacity development for ecosan (Seecon, ESF, GTZ)

This interactive curriculum on ecosan is meant for university and college teachers and students, but also planners, architects, engineers, investors, decision making bodies such as communities, public administration, NGOs, development organisations, or simply interested persons. This is on of the first comprehensive compilations of ecosan related material, structured into an curriculum. The development of the curriculum was undertaken by Johannes Heeb (IEES), Petter D. Jenssen (UMB), Ken Gnanakan (ACTS) and Katharina Conradin (SEECON) and financed by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC).

Train the Trainer - Ecosan Course, April 2008

“Capacity Building for Ecological Sanitation: The Ecosan Trainers of the Future”

This 9 day course contained training/lecture material, presentations and exercises on the topic of ecological sanitation in peri-urban areas in Cagayan de Oro (CDO), Philippines. The target group was trainers of ecological sanitation systems. The content of the course was based on the old EcoSan Curriculum of Seecon (and the 1001 partners such as GTZ, IWWA, TTZ, ESF etc.). Johannes Heeb and Martin Wafler (both from Seecon) have been holding the course in CDO. Additionally Robert Holmer (PUVeP), Ulrike Lipkow (local GTZ water program) and Gina Itchon (XU) have contributed to the success of the event.

Water and Sanitation in developing countries (Eawag/Sandec training tool)
The goal of Sandec’s Training Tool is capacity development in the sector of water and environmental sanitation by improvements in training and education of sanitary and environmental engineers in developing countries. Free access to well structured and comprehensive training material is therefore provided. The seven modules dealing with technologies and approaches in the water and sanitation sector are adapted to situations in developing countries. And the fact that technologies alone cannot solve the problems but must be based on the socio-cultural, economic and institutional context is explained in detail.
