SPLASH launches a research call
SPLASH launches a research callSPLASH is the name of European Research Area Network (ERA-NET) on water research for development. It is a consortium of 16 ministries, funding agencies and national research and technological development authorities from 11 European countries. As one of its activities, SPLASH will launch a research call on 1st March, 2010. The overall call budget will be at least 1.9 Mio Euro. The major objective of the SPLASH research call is to contribute to the understanding and implementation at scale of sustainable sanitation service chains in low-income urban areas in Sub-Saharan Africa. Each research consortium applying in the call must consist of a minimum of 3 independent legal entities. At least 2 consortium partners must be from one or more African countries and at least 1 consortium partner must be from an European country.

The call applicant's guide and templates for submitting concept notes will be available on the SPLASH website from March 1, 2010.
 
ECO-Asia promotion grants
The ECO-Asia program, a regional environmental program funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development and based in Bangkok, has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Grants for Promoting Access to Urban Water and Sanitation Services. The grants program will support the use of ECO-Asia's newly developed 10-Step Promotion Program Toolkit, to increase or improve water and sanitation services in Asian cities.

All private organizations, NGOs and academic institutions working in countries eligible for USAID assistance may apply. The maximum amount for an individual grant is US$10,000. New video online
The school San Christopherus in Lima, Peru has an ecological sanitation (ecosan) system with urine diversion dehydration toilets. The wastewater will be treated and reused for irrigation, as well as the urine and the feaces are reused as fertiliser and soil conditioner in the school garden. The video is in spanish.
