Join working group 1 to strategically accelerate and influence the capacity development process for sustainability in the sanitation sector.
Join working group 2 to enrich the weak data base on costs and economics - which play a key role in the selection and sustainability of sanitation systems.
Join working group 3 to raise awareness about the energy production potential of sustainable sanitation systems, thereby reducing dependence on imported or fossil-fuel energy sources.
Join working group 4 to develop technological options that make sanitation systems sustainable and improve public health, especially in developing countries.
Join working group 5 to raise awareness about the reuse-oriented sustainable sanitation approach and its prospective contribution to global food security; further, help to promote this approach on a large scale.
Join working group 6 to develop strategies on how cities can adopt an appropriate planning, implementation, and management process that leads towards more sustainable sanitation solutions.
Join working group 7 to raise awareness for community and rural sanitation by creating discussion and therewith enhance networking opportunities.
Join working group 8 to combine the knowledge from experts in the field of sustainable sanitation with that of emergency response and reconstruction, for the purpose of promoting and disseminating information on best practice sustainable sanitation systems.
Join working group 9 to help develop an open-source data base on best practices of income-generating sustainable sanitation solutions.
Join working group 10 to help create global awareness of sustainable sanitation options, and on how to make them more accessible and affordable in the local and global market especially for the poor.
Join working group 11 to discuss and disseminate information on best practice examples of operation and maintenance systems for sustainable sanitation by elaborating fact sheets, case studies, posters and other information materials.
Join working group 12 to work on integrating the specific needs of both men and women in sustainable sanitation, thereby ensuring total acceptance and usability of the systems.

Ways to join the SuSanA


The SuSanA invites individuals and organisations to join the network, contribute ideas, and become active members in the thematic working groups. To join you see the possibilities and procedures below: 



1) For individuals with general interest:

  • subscribe to the SuSanA mailing list and receive regular information, like the monthly updates on the network's activities

2) For individuals who want to become a member of a thematic working group:

  • register as an individual member of one or more working groups (organisations can be active in working groups through their individual members),
  • gain access to information on working group process, an upload/download document function and a guest book in the login area of the website, 
  • and/or be active by hosting SuSanA meetings or by organising activities/ events to promote sustainable sanitation as described in the vision papers

3) For individuals who want to take the lead for an existing or new thematic working group:

  • contact the secretariat
  • be able to organise the working group and its input to the network,
  • and be able to facilitate communication within the WG and the development of WG products

4) For organisation who want to join as a partner organisation:

  • support the aims of the SuSanA (agree to the >>vision document),
  • nominate a contact person within the organisation and register as a partner organisation of the SuSanA network,
  • provide the organisation logo to be placed on the SuSanA website and publications,
  • and gain access to information on working group (WG) process, an upload/download document function and a guest book in the login area of the website

You are warmly invited to register for the internal SuSanA web area and contribute either as a SuSanA PARTNER organisation or an individual MEMBER of one or several working groups (WG). Once you have registered, you have access to the internal section where you can share documents, contact your working group colleagues via an e-mail contact form and leave a comment in the guest book.
