1.  Status quo analysis of SuSanA 2008 to 2012 summary now available online

SuSanA, since its conception in 2007, has produced many outcomes, achieved many milestones and actively contributed to the sector's awareness on sustainability criteria in the field of sanitation. Now after six years of existence, with the present level of activity and new sectorial challenges (i.e. recognition of sanitation as a human right, definition of the SDGs, post-2015 JMP process, relevance of climate change adaptation measures in ODA, etc.), SuSanA has reached a point where reflection is required on the current status of the alliance’s activities and its effective outreach in order to prepare for the next 5 years. Therefore, the GIZ sector program “Sustainable Sanitation” which manages the SuSanA secretariat has commissioned a team of specialists to support SuSanA in the process of strategy / Roadmap development, in a collaborative manner with input from the core group and SuSanA key stakeholders.

The “SuSanA 2008 to 2012 – a status quo analysis” is now a available online. The report will provide a basis for a strategy process in a later step. The team of specialists that prepared the report under the direction of seecon, consists of:

  1. Johannes Heeb (seecon gmbh, expert in WASH)
  2. Jay Baghwan (WRC, expert in WASH)
  3. Roland Schertenleib (W+S Consult, expert in WASH)
  4. Astrid Frischknecht (seecon gmbh, expert in organisational development)
  5. Wolfgang Pfefferkorn ( Rosinak & Partner, network specialist)
  6. Dorothee Spuhler (seecon gmbh, project manager)

2.  Add your voice to the next 5 years of SuSanA

Are you an individual member of the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA)? Do you regularly visit the website, use its library or follow discussions on this forum? Or has your organisation agreed to the SuSanA vision statement as an official SuSanA partner organisation? Perhaps you have contributed towards the SuSanA publications or co-hosted or attend a SuSanA meeting/ seminar/ side event? Or are you one of the founding members of SuSanA  in 2007 in preparation of  2008 as the International Year of Sanitation?

Regardless, now is your chance to actively shape this network towards catering to your needs and to contribute to the SuSanA roadmap for the next five years!

The question is: How can we as a loose network, with 193 partner organisations and over 2200 individual members and forum users, ensure in the future that SuSanA fulfills all our networking needs, effectively defends our interests and has maximum sector impact possible?

Please spare 10 minutes of your time to respond to this survey: www.surveymonkey.com/s/SuSanA-strategy-development – or post your comments  on the forum. The survey is only open until midnight on the 20th March 2013. As a little incentive there are 100 SuSanA USB-cards on offer for the participants of the survey!

3. The 4C networking campaign

The 4C are Cooperation, Collaboration, Coordination and Communication and this is an initiative to raise awareness within the Alliance (for both partner organisation’s and individual members) of how the communication tools on the SuSanA platform can be used in our everyday work.

We all can agree that working together has a far greater impact on helping solve the worldwide sanitation crisis than struggling alone or even wasting efforts through duplication of work. So please make use of the freely available communication tools on the SuSanA platform to suit your needs to cooperate, collaborate, coordinate and communicate more effectively. At the same time, your contribution helps you personally, and both your organisation and SuSanA to grow strong together - thereby achieving a win-win situation!

For a graphical overview of the communication channels available on SuSanA for you to use as well as more information, please visit this page: http://www.susana.org/lang-en/about-susana/205-about-susana/786-susanas-4c-networking-campaign

4.  Video presentation from FSM2 conference online

Due to popular demand (see here on the discussion forum), all the presentations from the FSM2 Conference that took place in October 2012 in Durban, South Africa, were filmed and the videos of the presentations are now being made available on the SuSanA Youtube channel. We are very sorry for the delay which was beyond the control of the SuSanA secretariat. In the first instance, only the video clips from those 45 projects which were co-funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are being put online (by 23 March 2013 they should all be online). If there is sufficient demand and funding available the videos from the remaining presentations might also still be edited and uploaded.

5.  Monthly SuSanA discussion forum digest: What has been discussed?

If you would like to receive the Forum Digest by e-mail which is sent out twice a week, you simply need to register as a SuSanA member here: www.susana.org/lang-en/register and then you will be automatically subscribed to the Forum Digest.

A call for contributions to the French section on the forum has been made: http://forum.susana.org/forum/categories/44-forum-de-discussion-en-francais-forum-for-french-speaking-people

Do you need feedback on your publication from other sanitation experts or would you like to share your thoughts on a certain publication? Our new publication discussion section on the SuSanA discussion forum is just the right place for you! http://forum.susana.org/forum/categories/89-publication-discussions

Some of the topics that have been discussed in the last month are:

New announcements under Jobs and internships on offer, Events, Publication discussions, Call for proposals (projects and awards).

6.  New mobile version of the forum (m.forum.susana.org)

The SuSanA forum has gone mobile since mid-February 2013. We are happy to be able to accommodate all those people who prefer to use mobile devices with a mobile version of the SuSanA forum.
If you have not already used it, please do, by simply adding the “m.” in front of any link to the forum. Just use your normal SuSanA log in.

10. Événements à venir organisés par nos partenaires
