1st IWA Conference on Algal Technologies for Wastewater Treatment and Resource Recovery

16 Mar. 2017 - 17 Mar. 2017 • UNESCO-IHE (Delft, Netherlands)

The the 1st IWA Conference on Algal Technologies for Wastewater Treatment and Resource Recovery will take place on 16th and 17th of March 2017 at the UNESCO-IHE in Delft. The conference aims at bringing together scientists, algaeneers and practitioners and act as a discussion and knowledge-sharing platform on the latest developments on algal technologies.

Further Description / Program

Background:

Wastewater engineers using algae can benefit from knowledge coming from the use of algae to produce biofuels, food supplements or green pharmaceuticals. Likewise, wastewater as a cheap source of nutrients and inorganic carbon is promising for the production of algae-based commodities. For example, algae based treatment systems in developing world tropical countries, may reduce wastewater treatment costs via the recovery of its inherent resources.

Conference themes:

1. High rate algae ponds, photo-activated sludge and microalgae-bacterial flocs
2. Photo-bioreactor design
3. Phototrophic biofilms and granules
4. Experimental methods, algal respirometry, monitoring, modeling and process control
5. Algal microbial interactions and mixed culture ecology
6. Macroalgae-based technologies
7. Algae based wastewater treatment
8. Biodiesel and biogas production from algae grown in wastewater
9. Waste gas treatment and greenhouse gas capture
10. Algae downstream processing to valuable products
11. Algae-based nutrient removal and recovery
12. Algae systems in a circular economy
